BJP leader Dilip Ghosh faced strong public protests on Thursday during a campaign visit to the Purigate area in Kharagpur, located in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district. Angry residents surrounded his vehicle and staged demonstrations, expressing dissatisfaction over what they described as neglect during a recent crisis linked to railway eviction notices.
Tension had been simmering in Ward No. 27 after Indian Railways issued notices to remove alleged illegal encroachments in the area. According to local residents, affected families did not receive support or intervention from BJP leaders, including Ghosh, during this period. The situation escalated when he arrived in the locality for campaign activities, triggering immediate protests.
Demonstrators raised slogans and voiced anger not only at Ghosh but also at BJP workers accompanying him. The atmosphere quickly turned volatile, with competing slogans adding to the intensity of the situation. Residents alleged that political leaders appeared only during election campaigns, despite remaining absent when people were facing displacement concerns.
The protest led to temporary road blockades in the Purigate area, disrupting movement and heightening tensions. The administration intervened to restore order after considerable effort. The incident has further escalated political tensions in the region, with visible public discontent emerging ahead of the upcoming elections.
